Case study

Clubs WA — a single brief that grew into five years of marketing management

Clubs WA · 2021–2026

The situation

Clubs WA is the industry body for Western Australia's not-for-profit club sector — club rooms, restaurants and bars. It represents around 500 not-for-profit and community clubs, roughly half the sector in WA.

It needed to strengthen the value it delivered to its commercial sponsors. Those relationships underpin the association's ability to support its member clubs, so sponsor value is not a marketing nicety — it is the funding model.

What we did

  • Rebuilt the sponsor engagement approach
  • Social media management
  • Designed and produced a bi-monthly 40-page glossy magazine
  • Ongoing email marketing to the member network
  • Member workshops on marketing for clubs, member retention and social media
  • Planned and ran the Annual Awards, including the 2022 Awards and Conference at the Esplanade Hotel, Fremantle

The result

18 → 27

Active sponsors, a 50% increase

40%+

Sustained open rate on the weekly member newsletter

~400

Attendees at the 2022 Awards and Conference

5 years

One brief became full marketing management

Andy worked with Clubs WA for five years, and in that time the brief just kept growing — it started with our sponsors and ended up covering our magazine, our newsletter, our social media and our Annual Awards. We went from 18 active sponsors to 27, our member newsletter consistently opened above 40%, and the 2022 Awards at the Esplanade brought together nearly 400 people from across the sector. He understood clubs and hospitality, not just marketing, and that's why it worked.
